The Northern Tasmanian Football League can lay claim to being the top regional competition in the State after beating the Tasmanian under 23 team in a representative game at Ulverstone.
The game gave the Tasmanian under 23 team a valuable hit-out before its trip to Western Australia in June and at the same time showed the quality of the NTFL team.
Coached by Kent Jackson the NTFL team was always in control with “hardly a passenger” in the line-up.
Smithton forward Damien Medwin kicked nine goals in the 67-point win and had good support from Latrobe’s Adam Jeffrey.
Josh Holland was the unanimous choice as best afield and winner of the G B “Paddy” Martin Medal.
The medal is awarded each year to the NTFL’s best player in representative games and Holland was presented with his award by Paddy Martin after the final siren.
Latrobe had the distinction of providing both captains for the game with Holland leading the NTFL team and Kurt Byard the Tasmanian under 23 team.
Final scores – NTFL 20.18 (138) d Tasmania U23 10.11 (71)
