NWFL WOMEN 2019
MAGPIES CONFIRM WOMEN’S DOMINANCE
Devonport confirmed its dominance of the NWFL Women’s competition last month with a second consecutive premiership at Girdlestone Park. But it did not come easy with the fourth-placed Penguin serving it right up to the unbeaten Magpies throughout the contest although they were not able to put pressure on the scoreboard.
The Two Blues held the powerful Devonport forward line to only three goals and nine scoring shots, but could not add to their only goal in the first term. Put simply, the Magpies has too much talent over the ground but the Two Blues would have walked away satisfied with their efforts, given the club only won two regular season games before ebating Latrobe and Wynyard in the finals.
Onballer Meg Graham dominated in the Grand Final for the Magpies with good support from Phoebe Cahill, Samantha Langmaid, Maighan Singleton, Bronte Nightingale and Coach Savahn Overall. Coach and club Best & Fairest winner Lila Wijesingha-Frohmader led from the front for Penguin while the Two Blues also got good service from Kathleen Parker, Alysha Thompson, Mel Randall, Nicole Poke and Bianca Howard.
