NWFL WOMEN 2018
Overall put aside the death of her grandmother, Betty, earlier in the week leading up to the game to turn in a dominant performance for the ‘Pies in their 6.5 (41) to 2.14 (16) victory at Penguin’s Dial Park.
She was justifiably awarded the best-on-ground medal, but Overall was far from alone in giving the Magpies every chance to atone for their second semi-final loss to the Demons.
Shannon Best, diminutive midfielder Meg Graham, the competition’s leading goalkicker Penelope Fulton and Zoe Knight all play pivotal roles.
The Magpies went in with a game plan to get the ball out into the open and use their pace to test Latrobe, a tactic which worked well.
Latrobe opened an early lead in the final, but Devonport pegged it back to take a seven-point break into quarter-time which it extended to 12 at half-time and 24 by the final change.
From there the Magpies were never going to let the result slip away. The Demons were best served by Karina Baxter, Grace Huxtable, Chloe Nicholls and Sommer Bissett.
